Back in the Saddle

Well, I've been taking some time off from blogging, just trying to relax and enjoy Christmas (aka the Winter Holiday for those of you on the left) and New Year's with my family. Also have been really busy working to prepare the house for our soon-to-come baby. Anyway, I've been watching the goings on as the politicians have stumbled their way back to Washington. Was it just me, or was life much better while these incompetent boobs were out of town? Rather than foot the bill for the $825 billion "stimulus" bill that Pelosi is trying to ram through (more on that later), I think a far better idea would be for us to foot the bill for the Congress and Senate to take a 365 day vacation to an exotic location. Who's with me?

I've been watching this group of people that Obama has selected to be in his cabinet. I must say that aside from retaining Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense, which I applaud, I'm less than impressed. Here's what I see so far.

Timothy Geithner - Treasury Secretary
This guy is going to be in charge of the IRS, yet failed to pay $34,000 in income taxes from 2001-2004. His returns were only corrected after he was nominated by Obama for this position. We're told this guy is a genius as well as the only person who truly understands the TARP program, yet he somehow doesn't know that 1099 contractors still have to pay taxes on earnings. Politicians say an honest mistake? I say BS.

Stephen Chu - Energy Secretary
Has stated that the price of gas should be raised to European levels to reduce consumption (not the government's job) and that coal is his "worst nightmare" (even though coal is responsible for providing 50% of this nation's electricity at an affordable price). This guy will fulfill what Barack Obama promised when he stated that under his plan energy prices would "skyrocket".

Hilda Solis - Labor Secretary
Refuses to answer whether she believes in secret ballots when employees are voting to unionize. This pick is no doubt a kickback to the union bosses that raised millions for Obama's election. Small businessmen beware.

Eric Holder - Attorney General
Helped President Clinton pardon Marc Rich, who was indicted for evading over $48 million in taxes, setting up illegal oil deals with Iran during the 1979-80 Iran Hostage Crisis, and then fleeing law enforcement to Switzerland. Also helped Clinton pardon FALN terrorists. There also seems to be some new info emerging about Holder representing Chiquita International, which was guilty of paying protection money to a group called the AUC, which is designated by the US as a terrorist organization. In a nutshell, it seems Holder brokered a deal so that the corporation had to pay a fine, but none of the managers or officers were held personally responsible. He said in his confirmation hearing today that he "learned from his mistakes", but I simply have a hard time believing this is the most qualified man to serve as the head of law enforcement in this country.

Carol Browner - Energy-Environment Czar
This one is the best. This hack is a commissioner in a Socialist group. By Obama selecting her, he is adding more fuel and credence to the idea that man-made global warming/cooling/climate change (whatever the hell it is now) is nothing but a huge farce intended to destroy capitalism and massively increase government power and control in our lives.

Great selections Obama. This is not change we can believe in. This is change that should scare the crap out of any liberty-loving, law-abiding American.

On to the new "stimulus plan". Nancy Pelosi, the disgraceful Speaker of the House from San Francisco, who I'm pretty sure came to Washington DC in a smoke-filled tie-dyed Volkswagen van with shag carpet, introduced this $825 billion monstrosity today. Even considering the deficit spending by Republicans over the past 8 years, the reaction by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was very telling: "Oh my God." Evidently, Pelosi, who has pledged to work in a "spirit of bipartisanship", had not even consulted with Republicans before rolling out this steaming pile of excrement.

I'm not really sure how public-works projects, bailouts to states who's governors don't know how to balance a checkbook, subsidizing COBRA payments, etc., are supposed to stimulate the economy. Oh, the House also left out the "patch" for the Alternative Minimum Tax. Charles Rangel (D-NY), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and a tax-evading crook in his own right, said that he believed the Senate would add that in. Here's a crazy idea. How about doing away with the damn AMT once and for all? Guess that just makes too much sense. Basically what we're left with is a pork bill that's labeled a stimulus bill by Democrats which will cost $825 billion that we don't have. Oh well, what do I know anyway? After all, public-works projects and such worked so well during the Great Depression, right? Only helped extend the thing for nearly a decade.

Stimulating the economy is actually extraordinarily simple, but politicians refuse to do it. Cut corporate tax rates to 5% for two years. Not only will domestic money be put to work, but you will see a flood of capital flow into the US from overseas like nothing we've ever witnessed before. Not only would this spur the economy, but would actually result in increases in revenue to the government. After all, tax cuts increase government revenue every time they're tried. Of course, that's not what Obama and the Dems are concerned about. They don't view taxes as a way to raise money for legitimate government expenses. As he's said in his own words, he's proposed raising taxes for the purpose of "fairness".

Before I conclude, I'd like to take the time to thank you 53% of the electorate who voted for Obama & his ilk and also you RINOs up in New Hampshire who started the ball rolling for McCain in the primaries. I hold you all responsible for the madness which is ensuing before our very eyes.
